Celebrating Newark's 1st Stage

In 1925, Newark’s architectural treasure opened its doors as the Masonic Temple—a grand space where artistry and community first came together under one roof. Over the years, it evolved into what we now know as Newark Symphony Hall, the city’s celebrated “First Stage.” For a century, this landmark has welcomed legends, lifted voices, and stood as a shining beacon of Newark’s resilience and creativity.

Now, as we step into our 100th anniversary, we embark on a year-long celebration of artistry, memory, and the diverse community that has made this institution so essential. This centennial is more than a milestone—it is a living tribute to the artistry, stories, and spirit that have shaped Symphony Hall, and a bold vision of the next century of imagination yet to come. And as we kick things off, we turn first to you—our community. Your stories, your creativity, and your voice are at the heart of this celebration.

Together, we will honor the past and shape the vision for the next hundred years of Newark Symphony Hall.
