100th Anniversary

A Tribute To 100 Years

In 1925, Newark’s architectural treasure opened its doors as the Salaam Temple — a place where artistry, community, and cultural diversity first came together. It later evolved into Newark Symphony Hall, the city’s beloved “1st Stage,” welcoming generations of legends and reflecting the vibrant mix of voices that define Newark.

As we mark our 100th anniversary, we honor a century of creativity, resilience, and the rich diversity that has shaped our story — while powering a restoration that secures our future. This milestone is more than a look back; it is a celebration of the people, cultures, and artistry that make The Hall essential.

And now, together, we are not just commemorating the first 100 years — we are setting the stage for the next century of imagination at Newark Symphony Hall. This centennial celebrates a deep legacy as the state’s largest Black-led arts institution. This year-long commemoration elevates history as a living asset—reinforcing the value of the institution while advancing investment in the building and fundraising for its long-term preservation. Through a sequenced series of public celebrations, exhibitions, and intimate gatherings, the centennial activates the Hall during restoration.
